They all enjoy a high reputation in their respective academic fields. To this day, 44 current or former NBER research branches and board members have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics, including Paul Samuelson, Kuznets, James Tobin, Joseph Stiglitz, Paul Krugman, Claudia Golding, and others. In addition, several NBER researchers have also held important positions in the US Presidential Council of Economic Advisers.
